Catching up

We have had rain everyday since Sunday, so needless to say I've been suffering from a mild case of cabin fever. Don't get me wrong- I am very grateful for the rain because we need it bad; however, it's always depressing when it's dark and gloomy alldaylong. It did give me a chance to just snuggle up on the couch and read a few books. I finished Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. Karen gave me the book Persuasion quite some time ago and I can't tell you how many times I've started that book- each time getting a little further, but I was never able to finish it. If I leave a book for too long I just start it over, because I'll have forgotten what was really going on. I liked both of the books, but I did think that Northanger Abbey was rather anti-climatic. My favorite Jane Austen book is still Pride and Prejudice.

I have more house work than I care to think about right now. Why is it that I have been cooped up in the house for two days, but have had absolutely NO desire to clean it. It should be spotless right now. Well, I guess not spotless- I do have four dogs.

My friend and I are going to have a yard sale this Saturday, so I've been going through every possible drawer and closet making sure there isn't one more thing I could get rid of. My sorting style is this: If I don't feel like moving it-it's gone!

Anyway- happy Thursday to everyone!

New Glasses

I went to the eye doctor yesterday and now I have these:

They are a low prescription, but they should keep my eyes from struggling so hard to focus since I have astigmatism. I was getting headaches quite frequently, so hopefully this will do the trick.

Side note- Dan tested for Staff this morning so we're hoping he makes it this year. He'll find out mid August, so I'll keep you posted!

My name

What Elisabeth Means
You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.
You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.
You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.
You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are full of energy. You are spirited and boisterous.
You are bold and daring. You are willing to do some pretty outrageous things.
Your high energy sometimes gets you in trouble. You can have a pretty bad temper at times.

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.
You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.
You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.
Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia.
Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person.
I put in "Lisa" also, but it was almost the exact same description.

Catching up

Well the holiday is over and now I'm getting back to my normal schedule (whatever that may be). I hope everyone had a good 4th of July. Dan's parents got in on Wednesday and stayed for a few days. Thursday, Sarah and I went to the pool while Steve and Dan worked on his trans am. Then that evening the base had their fireworks so we went to see them. Friday we drove down to the Morehead city. The weather was great, and the water was perfect, but the beach was packed. We stayed for a few hours (until we were roasted), and then we packed up and headed home. After dinner, the city of Goldsboro had a fireworks show, so we got to see fireworks again. I liked their show the best.

Steve and Sarah left early of Saturday, so Dan and I just bummed around the house. I can't remember that last time we were so lazy. We watched movies and ate junk food all day. It was awesome. Finally around 6pm we did manage to get ourselves up off the couch to head over to walk around the mall. Dan bought a short sleeve dress shirt, and I bought....... nothing. Can you even believe that?!

We had a surprise when we got to the car and tried to leave-it wouldn't start. No sputtering. No weird nose. Nothing. We got someone to jump our battery, but that failed to work. Seeing no other choice, we walked over to autozone and purchased a new battery. Dan installed it and we were hoping, but when we turned the key the car still did nothing. We decided to get it towed and have a mechanic look at it Monday, so we just hitched a ride with friends and left the car there in the mall parking lot.

When we got home, Dan looked up our problem on the Internet and low and behold it seemed like it might just be the security system keeping us from starting the car. Actually, there is a whole section about it in our owners manual, so yesterday morning we headed back to the mall, and after trying what the manual suggested, the car started right up. I was so relieved that we didn't have to take it to a shop to have it fixed. I was just imagining the checking account being emptied, but we didn't have to. All we ended up spending was for the battery, which we really did need anyway. Thank you Lord!

Well that's it for now. George keeps ringing the bells- so I think that means he's serious about wanting outside. We'll see.

It's July!

I'm sitting here and looking at my calender and I am stunned it's already July. Where did the rest of the year go? I remember waving good-bye to Dan as he loaded into the bus at the beginning of January. I felt like it would be forever before he returned. But here it is the first of July, and Dan's already been home almost 2 months. Crazy.

Before I start gabbing about anything else I need to wish my Dad a happy birthday. I hope you have a wonderful day Dad! I miss you!

Okay, now to the boring stuff......while we were on vacation I noticed some pain in one of my back molars. I thought I might need a new filling, so I went to the dentist yesterday and after he took some x-rays he told me that my back molar (not the one I originally thought) has some decay under the crown, so it's infecting my gums and that is what is causing the pain. I was glad he figured out what was wrong with my tooth, but now I have to get a whole new crown. What a disappointment. I was really hoping to just get a new filling. O well. It know it has to be done, but I sure hate to spend the money. My portion is $400. I asked if they could just pull it, but they thought I was joking, and I guess I was- well partially anyway.

Dan's parents are driving down tomorrow so they can spend 4th of July with us. I can't remember, but I think they've been able to come down here almost every year for the 4th. They really want to go to the beach this year, so I guess we'll be headed in that direction even though it'll be very very very busy!

Dan has an appointment tomorrow to see a guy about retraining. Hopefully, this will get him headed in the right direction towards his new career. He's really excited, so I'll keep everyone posted on the details.

I realized today that I haven't posted any pictures of our new bathroom. We should be finishing up on some of the last touches tonight, so hopefully I can get those pictures up soon. It looks SO different.

Well I have to go finish cleaning the house that way when company come it'll seem like my house looks like this all the time. HA!
