Smokey Mountains

Well I just got back from a vacation in the Smokey Mountains. Dan and I had a wonderful time and it was so nice to see friends and family again. We left a day early so we could stop in Middle TN to see some old friends. Although we got stuck in some traffic, and were a little late getting there, it was nice to see everyone. I got to see my long time friend pregnant, which I almost missed because she had her baby 4 days later. Congrats to them and welcome to the world baby Lexi!

I thought I'd just post some pictures from the vacation. It was just beautiful there.

Happy Fathers Day

I just wanted to wish every one a Happy Fathers Day! I had the pleasure of having the best one, but I know there are many other great fathers out there. Dad, if you read this, I love you and miss you very much! You have been a wonderful father and I couldn't have asked for a more loving (and forgiving) Dad! I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing day. Love you!

I'm in love.....

With my new air conditioner! Okay, I promise this is the last post about the a.c. but it's just sooo cool (pun intended). The people came and installed it today and I have to say it has made a HUGE difference. None of us (dogs included) wanted to leave the house. I had to actually shove the dogs outside for a potty break. They seemed content to stay inside and hold it.

But, the icing on the cake is our new thermostat. It's amazing. It has this neat blue touch screen and you can set the temp for 4 different times during the day. I could just go on and on. It's just so different from what we had before- an old old old stone age piece of equipment. I would have paid $3800 just for that little guy. Kidding, Kidding........

Wore out

I came home from running some errands this morning and this is what I found....

Poor guy. After working all night, he just crashed on the mattress. He actually looks rather innocent in this picture, but don't let looks fool you.

*I should also note that he has his new pillow that he's been wanting to buy for months (it was not cheap). The man is in love with the thing. If I would have known a pillow would make him so happy I think we would have been able to avoid some of those car purchases. =)

Air conditioner update

Well I have a few estimates in about the air conditioner and it looks like it'll be about $3800. The estimates vary by about $50, but at this point I don't think that small difference matters. Every place is offering me the exact same unit which I think is rather interesting. I thought there would be more choices, like when you shop for shoes. I mean, they don't even offer you different colors!

I have one more company coming today and then I'll make my choice. I'm starting to get really excited about the new unit (not as excited as when we bought the t.v, but close). Plus, we get a new digital thermostat. Our house is going to be soooo high tech now.

For the past week we have had the mattress set up in the back living room because it's the coldest room during the day (for Dan to sleep). The dogs are trying to adjust to the new night time schedule. Some dogs are doing better than others *cough....zelda...cough*. Usually I put them to bed and then go to bed myself; however, I've been sleeping out in the living room also, and they just don't know what to do. Poor Zelda is just beside herself (not that this is abnormal). She likes things the way she likes them (like me) and she's all flustered by the change. Hopefully we'll get the new a.c unit installed soon, so Zelda can have her sleeping arrangements back to normal. The other dogs are doing better with it. Zeus wanders between the bedroom and living room all night trying to decide the best place to sleep (usually he ends up on a couch). Onyx and George (who really can't be inconvenienced anyway) tend to find the warmest and softest place to snuggle in. This usually means I wake up with them both on my bed, George practically on top of me, stealing my pillow and Onyx with her feet jabbing me in the side. Dan just doesn't know what he's missing at night.

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but we had a nice thunderstorm last night and there is quite a bit of plant debris in the yard. I should probably make an effort and go clean it up. I tell you the fun just never stops......

Close Call

Dan and I went to Raleigh last night to pick up a friend from the airport. On the way home (I was driving) a car pulled right out in front of us. I had no time to stop and I was in the left lane so I swerved the car into the median and slammed on the brakes. We do know the brakes work because we went from 60-0 fairly quickly. We were all catching our breath and trying to realize what had just happened, but the more I think about it the more I am grateful for many things 1) the median was grass and not cement or wall for that matter 2) nobody hit us from behind (there was a semi behind us) 3) there was a median available and we didn't just get pushed into oncoming traffic 4) There was a sign in the median I thought we'd hit, but the car stopped just shy of it. 5) Excellent tires and brakes!
Good thing I don't believe in luck!

On a different note- it's a scorcher today. I'm still getting estimates from different A.C. companies before we decide. Evidently the A.C unit we have right now isn't the right size for our house, but we could've told you that to begin with. I can't wait to see what the house feels like with a new, more efficient machine. I'll feel so spoiled.

Anyhow, I think I'll just go relax at the pool. I've been reading all morning and I could use some sun. Man, if I would have known it would be this much fun to not have a job, I would have quit a long time ago. Of course having a wonderful hubby who lets me stay at home always helps!

What I've been dreading.....

Well the day has finally come when I have to call someone about coming to install a new air conditioner. I'm NOT looking forward to it. We've tried to make this old unit work but sadly it just can't keep up anymore. We suppliment with ceiling fans and box fans, but the house still stays a sweltering 80. Plus, the weather here has been in the high 90's/ low 100's. Poor Dan.
I guess I'll be going through the phone book and getting estimates on a new unit. I hate to have to get one, but it must be done. Wish me luck!

I've finally done it!

So I finally took the plunge! I'm in the blogging world (I'm sure you all are squealing with delight). This is all VERY new to me so I'm sure the next few posts will just be trying to figure how all this works.
Anyhow, welcome to my world!
